The Burke Mountain Naturalists are part of the newly formed Tri-Cities Environmental Alliance (TCEA), an informal alliance of about 16 environmental organizations active in the Tri-Cities. Participants include naturalist and birding groups, tree advocacy organizations, stream-keepers and volunteer-run hatcheries, park associations, climate action networks, and faith-based environmental justice groups.
At the September meeting of the TCEA member groups devised four questions on environmental issues to be submitted to all candidates standing for elected office in the 2026 Municipal Elections in the Tri-Cities.
We thank the 39 candidates for answering our questions, and we thank all the candidates for their offers of service and leadership!
The four questions are:
- Protecting salmon-bearing streams
Recognizing the importance of salmon to British Columbia, what will you do to reduce or prevent pollution in our local salmon-bearing streams?
- Protecting our natural assets
How will you protect our natural assets including forests, streams, wetlands, wildlife habitat and other ecosystems in the face of development pressure?
- Connecting our communities with nature
What steps have you taken, and what steps will you take as a councillor, to ensure that our communities maintain a strong connection to nature?
- Climate action and resilience
What three policies will you support or introduce to proactively prevent and pay for climate-related disasters while also reducing greenhouse-gas emissions?
