VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Invasive Plant Removal at Como Lake
Tuesday October 8, 9am – noon
BMN will be back in the natural area at the north end of Como Lake Park. Just a short walk from the washroom, there is an area we are restoring by removing invasive Himalayan Blackberry and English Ivy. To locate our work area, look for the City of Coquitlam truck waiting to be loaded with clippings.
We will be cutting, digging, piling vines, branches and roots onto tarps and filling the back of the truck!
Bring your own clippers, loppers, raspberry cane cutters, gardening gloves if you like. The City of Coquitlam will also have gloves, hand tools and shovels for us. Bring water and a snack.
There is something very satisfying about clearing out invasive species so our native plants have soil, sun, moisture and room to grow, all the while chatting with other BMN volunteers. Let’s give Nature a boost! Come for the whole time or any time you are free.
Drop Kathy a note at kleko@telus.net so the City will know what to bring.
