Join Bird Studies Canada, Port Moody Ecological Society, and Burke Mountain Naturalists and take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count!
The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual event that occurs across North America. This fun event involves counting birds at nearby parks, nature centres, schoolyards, neighbourhoods or backyards. The data on birds that is collected during these events helps scientists get the “big picture” about what is happening to bird populations.
This free family-friendly event will begin with a brief introduction on how to identify birds and use binoculars. We will then split into teams and head out on a guided bird walk where we will count all of the birds we see along the way. We will meet back at the hatchery to share what we encountered during the count. Meet us at Noons Creek Hatchery, located over the footbridge to the very right of the Port Moody Recreation Centre on Ioco Road.
This event is suitable for people of all ages, however children must be accompanied by an adult. Please dress for the weather and bring binoculars if you have them. Binoculars will be available if needed.
FREE event, but please register at eventbrite.ca.
This event is co-hosted by Port Moody Ecological Society, Burke Mountain Naturalists, and Bird Studies Canada.
