Marine biologist Sheila Byers of the Beaty Biodiversity Museum at UBC will present on The Unique and Ancient Glass Sponge Reefs of Howe Sound. British Columbia’s glass sponge reefs have been called one of the great wonders of the world’s ocean, yet few people have heard of them. The rare reefs are composed of living sponges and fossilized skeletons, made of fragile silica (glass).
Our guest speaker this month is fisheries expert Dr. Marvin Rosenau who will give a presentation on the Fraser River’s disappearing salmon. Rosenau is a former provincial government fisheries scientist who now teaches in BCIT’s Fish, Wildlife and Recreation program.
Our new location is:
King of Life Lutheran Church
1198 Falcon Dr (SW corner of Falcon and Guildford)
There is parking in the church parking lot, off the Falcon Drive entrance.
