Online Talk “Canary in the Creek Bed”
Free Online Talk “Canary in the Creek Bed” by Dr. Nathan Ivy
Wednesday April 8, 7pm – 9pm
The Mossom Creek Hatchery & Education Centre is hosting this free seminar on how an antioxidant chemical derived from car tires is having a deadly impact on local Coho salmon populations. Nathan Ivy is from the Aquatic Ecotoxicology Lab at Washington State University’s Puyallup Research & Extension Center. He will describe the latest science on how 6PPD-q forms, how it enters our streams, and why it’s so toxic to Coho. To join the seminar, click the Zoom link at 7pm on April 8.
Note that Mossom’s AGM will include a presentation by Dr. Rachel Scholes from UBC on May 7 at 7pm. She will talk about her research on 6PPD-q in runoff sampled from 12 artificial turf fields in N Vanc and UBC.
