iNaturalist’s Cities Nature Challenge 2025
iNaturalist’s Cities Nature Challenge 2025
Friday April 25 to Monday April 28
The Cities Nature Challenge (CNC) is a four-day bioblitz held every April since 2016. Cities around the world compete to find species, make observations, and connect people with nature in urban areas.
This is a serious competition, folks!! At one point last year, Metro Vancouver Regional District (OUR TEAM) was only 5 observations behind Montreal…. This was way too close. This year, we are aiming for all our team’s observers to make 50-100 observations to iNat during the 4-day Challenge period. (For perspective, last year BMN member John Reynolds submitted 2,138 observations of 513 species).
Mark your calendar for CNC 2025! Here are the key dates:
April 25-28: Make as many observations as you humanly can.
April 29-May 4: Upload your observations and help make identifications of others’ observations.
May 5: Results announced.
All observations made to iNaturalist during the Challenge period are automatically entered. You don’t have to do anything, but you can join the CNC 2025 project to monitor how our team is doing.
The City of Port Moody is hosting five CNC events, and BMN will be leading two of these (an early morning birding walk at Rocky Point and a tour of the heron colony in the Shoreline Park). See our website and the City’s website closer to the time.
