BMN members and others volunteered for the City of Coquitlam to remove invasive plants around Como Lake on March 13, 2023. The City provided hand held snips and loppers, shovels, gloves (gardening and leather), first aid supplies, water and snacks.
Every bit helped as we tamed the invasives and gave the native plants more room to reach the sun and spread their roots. We tackled English Ivy and Himalayan Blackberry, cutting back vines and branches.
Liz greeted the passersby, explaining what we were doing as well as answering nature questions at our “Ask a Naturalist” pop up.
Lots of work but lots of camaraderie to get this job done.
